ILIAS connector
The connector looks for course files on the HSLU ILIAS pages you can open while signed in, and hands the ones you choose to Booklyn. It never asks for your password, and nothing is uploaded to Booklyn’s servers: files go straight from ILIAS into your own browser storage.
What it picks up
Only files Booklyn can read to write questions: PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and text files. Videos, audio, images, zips, spreadsheets and old Office files (.doc, .ppt) are skipped and never downloaded, because Booklyn cannot turn them into questions. Scanned PDFs without selectable text give no questions either.
It does not find everything on ILIAS. It reads the dashboard, courses, folders, groups and news pages (up to 20 pages per course and 14 courses per check, three levels deep), so content inside learning modules, wikis, forums or video platforms may not appear. Press Check ILIAS again after opening a course, and add anything missing by hand.
Step 1. Download the connector.
Download ilias-connector.zipInstall (about two minutes)
- Unzip it. Right-click the file and choose Extract all. Keep the folder somewhere permanent, for example Documents. If you delete it, the extension stops working.
- Open the extensions page. In Edge go to
edge://extensions, in Chrome go tochrome://extensions. - Turn on Developer mode. The switch is in the left column in Edge and at the top right in Chrome.
- Load the folder. Press Load unpacked and pick the
booklyn-ilias-connectorfolder you unzipped. - Sign in to ILIAS in the same browser, then reload any ILIAS tab that was already open.
- Open Booklyn, go to Port and press Check ILIAS. Choose the files you want and press Add to Port.
Good to know
- It works only on a computer. Phone browsers do not run this kind of extension, so Booklyn hides the ILIAS box on phones. Add files by hand there.
- Files over 12 MB must be added by hand.
- Updating (rare): you do not need to remove the extension. Download the new zip, extract it over the same folder (replace the files) and press the reload arrow on the extension’s card at
edge://extensions. Since version 0.4.0 the scanning logic lives in Booklyn itself, so scan improvements arrive on their own and the extension itself changes only rarely. Booklyn tells you in the Port when a new extension version exists. - It only reads
elearning.hslu.chand the Booklyn page. You can check this inmanifest.jsoninside the zip. - Use it only as HSLU allows. See the terms.
Changelog
0.4.0 (beta) · 27 Oct 2026
- The extension now only fetches pages and files with your own sign-in. The scanning logic moved into Booklyn, so fixes reach you without reinstalling.
- Fixed: calendar and settings links were mistaken for courses, so some courses showed nothing.
- New “Copy scan report” button in the Port, to help find why a course shows no files.
0.3.1 (beta) · 27 Oct 2026
- Fixed: the scan could use up its page budget on one course and never reach the others. Every course now gets its own budget.

- Files are labelled with their course, and Booklyn shows what each course gave.

0.1.0
- First version.
One-click install, later
A listing in the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store and the Chrome Web Store would make installation a single click with automatic updates, and removes the Developer mode step. It is planned once the connector has been tested by more students.
